There are a lot of really mean people in our society and in most socieities I
assume. There is meaness in little things like lying about someone you don't like
to meaness in big things, like the extermination and genocide of the American
Indians, or the Amenian massacre or dropping burning napalm in Vietnam on
villages that contain old men, women and children.
There's nothing I could express in color and line that would come close to the
meaness in our ordinary world. And people who once loved each other can be
really mean when disappointed and hurt by the failure of their relationship.
These artworks are about meaness, and some of them I hesistate to show you
here. The art process can somewhat soften the actual pain and anger of
meaness, but it doesn't reduce the horror we inflict on each other in our ordinary
life.
I fully realize that not many people or institutions will want to embrace these
visuals, but I created them anyway. Out of inner necessity, and out of the hurt
and pain I have felt being in contact with mean people. Especially from teachers,
school principles, and public school administrators while working as a substitute
teacher.
