| Most artworks are created around recognizable images. There must be millions of portraits, landscapes, seascapes, figures, flowers, and interiors where the viewer can exactly identify the subject. Spatial Abstractions are not centered around recognizable ordinary images. In fact, in its purist form, Spatial Abstractions have no literal, nameable content at all and exist as arrangements of basic art elements such as color, shape, direction, perspective, shadow, transparency, etc. In that sense, these artwork are more like music which is usually an arrangement of sounds, silent spaces, rhythm and the varying tones of the various instruments. Actually, making art this way is not abstraction at all, because usually, abstraction means that some-thing, or object is the source of the abstraction, i.e., some essential elements are selected out, or abstracted. So a yellow flower could be abstracted into a yellow circle, or a seascape could be abstracted into long stripes of blue and gray. Objects are not abstracted in Spatial Abstraction, yet, as the name implies, “spaces” are abstracted, or rather invented, improvised or created. Colors and shapes are drawn or painted that have no necessary connection to anything tangible or natural. Everything is just invented and amplified or enhanced as the artist develops the artwork. As I continued to make art in this direction, I found certain premises or structural elements made the art move toward resolution or a sense of completion. These ideas or patterns could also be considered as rules, principles, or guides and can be taught as lessons or exercises so that anyone can learn how to make Spatial Abstractions this way yet in their own way, so the final artwork is a totally individual and personal expression. If you are interested in learning how to do this, link to Internet Art Lessons. Perhaps you will want to try to make similar artworks and only if you own efforts are unsatisfactory to you will you accept some training is these skills. Also, to learn more about the "how to" of Spatial Abstraction link to: Books in Progress. Following are five links to five Spatial Abstractions. I have done many more, so this is just a peek into my efforts in this direction. 1. Spatial Abstraction One 2. Spatial Abstraction Two 3. Spatial Abstraction Three 4. Spatial Abstraction Four 5. Spatial Abstraction Five 6. Spatial Abstraction Six 7. Spatial Abstraction Seven 8. Spatial Abstraction Eight Note: Spatial Abstractions are constructed using flat color areas. Long ago, I changed from a "brushy" style of painting to the use of flat colors. I did this so I could use the technique of silkscreen to print limited editions. I did that, and continued to make my colored art this way. As a result, I can make hand-painted enlargements of Spatial Abstraction. So, if you want one of these five images produced in a large size, like ten by twelve feet or larger, or smaller, I can custom create it for you. You can see one enlargement in my living room. | If you want to purchase originals, please contact me for prices. Purchasing prints calls for some decision-making on your part. The first decision is describing the artwork you want. Just name the DIRECTORY and the number of your chosen piece. For example: Etchings: Number one. I'll then know exactly which artwork you want. Then there are decisions concern size, matting, glass or plastic protection, framing, method of payment and shipping. Size: All prints can be ordered in 8 1/2 x11, 11x14 and 22x28. The price increases with the size. Black and white prints can also be ordered in 18x22. Frames will be metal, in black, silver, gold and white. Mats will be cut to fit the frame size. Frames can be in custom sizes or standard size. The collector will pay all packaging and shipping. Quality: In 81/2 x 11, I can print your artwork with archival quality ink for extra light resistence and extended quality. Authenticity: I will send your chosen artwork with a hand-written, original signature on the front, and my personal Korean stamp on the back. Artwork can also be watermarked. A GOOD DEAL!!! I will send you two prints for the price of one on all sizes except 22x28. At this size, a second print will call for an additional $25. My idea is that one is for framing and display, and the other is to be put away for protection, inheritance or re-sale by yourself or your family. Prices for Color and B&W Prints. 8 ½ x11: $30 11x14: $50 Any other size up to 22 x 30 $80 Black &White Only: 18 x 22 $40 With a single mat, for all artwork, add $15. With a standard size frame with glass or plastic, including mat, add $50. Custom sizes will have additional costs. Shipping and postage will be added and depends on size, weight and location.
